For many of us halal foodies, we know the pains of having to walk passed any Col’cacchio and get the aroma of that deliciousness… and secretly hoping that they were halal. Well, the good news is that there are now two halal certified stores in country: one in Johannesburg and Cape Town each.
Making Col’cacchio Halal at Canal Walk
I was invited to try out a small selection of yummies from their menu on Wednesday, at the CW branch. This branch is halal certified by the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC). The menu has been adjusted to ensure that all ingredients are halal, and no alcohol is used in the sauce/s (or anywhere else, for that matter). The bar has been scrubbed down and is alcohol-free, filled with Monin syrups for the mocktails.
I’ll let the pictures do the talking…
Col’cacchio’s halal menu is already available online to browse through.
Highlights and Favourites
These were the items that stood out for me: The Moghul pizza, the Norm’s Pralina pizza (which has a lovely hot kick!), and the brownie with the most divine Profiteroles you’ll ever have.
I’ve had a sip or two of the Daikiwi mocktail and it was top-notch (sorry, I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of this).
A week earlier I had visited Col’cacchio and tried out the Nacho Libre, which was an excellent spicy chicken pizza, and Green Genie which was a delicious twist to a regular vegetarian pizza.

I look forward to returning to get a better taste of the pastas now! It’s only fair I work my way through this halal menu, one category at a time. 🙂
