What’s in a Doodle?

posted in: Miscellaneous | 6

Doodling out of boredom is a pretty common activity. As much as there are people out there who doodle, there are an equal number of people who dislike the habit. In a recent study, it was suggested that mindless doodling can actually improve one’s memory! (This is something I need to do more often as I tend to forget things that happened moments ago… literally!) Apparently your doodling also says something about you. It is argued that the kind of shapes you doodle reflects your mood or personality trait, or both.

Intricate Patterns: Detailed and complex patterns are the works of people who tend to be obsessive. They are introverted and hold tightly onto the things that mean a lot to them.

Arrows: If you’re guilty of this one, chances are you’re a determined person with your goals carefully planned out and ready to achieve them. An angular arrow as opposed to a curvy one signifies an important goal.

Your Initials / Your Name: You enjoy being at the centre of attention a lot. Doodling another’s initials or their name simply means that they’re in your thoughts.

Hearts: It’s no wonder what this may mean – you’re in love or feeling romantic.

Stars: These kind of people are optimistic, bold and ambitious.ย  Freehand stars reflect an energetic personality while neater, pronounced stars are a sign of excellent mental focus.

Zig Zags: Curvy zigzags are the doodling of people who have a soft, feminine approach to things whereas straighter lines are a more aggressive and masculine way of moving forward.ย

Stick Figures: Such plain drawings are usually the art of people who can control their emotions and have their minds set on achieving their goals in life. These doodles are apparently drawn by very successful people.

Webs: A spider’s web doodle indicates an imprisoned or trapped feeling. It may even mean trying to lure someone into a relationship or deal.

Boxes & Squares: This reflects a desire to control a problem or situation. Drawing your squares into cubes mean that you’re analytical and efficient.

Ladders: You’re most likely one to have a long-term task at hand and are busy working your way up the ladder. It can apply to a spiritual task as well.

Faces: If your drawings are of a pretty, well-drawn face then you’re the type of person who sees the good in people. If they’re ugly-looking faces, you’re probably not someone people can trust. Comic-like faces are drawn by those who like attention while child-like doodle faces indicates a sense of neediness.

Flowers: These are mindlessly scribbled by the family-oriented, friendly and sociable person with a warm personality. Wilted or droopy flowers, however, mean worrisome times.

If this is anything to go by, I’ve doodled a few flowers on my notepad this morning and certainly did not feel sociable. Oh well, perhaps I just cannot remember if I was feeling that way at that point in time. ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s rather interesting hey. One would think when you aren’t giving your fullest attention to what’s being said, you will not remember the finer details… Ah well.

Comic faces demonstrate a desire to be the centre of attention. Child-like doodles of faces suggest neediness. Profiles indicate youโ€™re an introvert.
