Mugg & Bean’s Sizzling Summer Menu

posted in: Events, Food | 4

Mugg & Bean launched their summer menu in the last four weeks and Hungry for Halaal invited us to try out their new additions at the only halal branch in the country: Mugg & Bean Kenilworth.

With a focus on being healthy for the most part, the summer menu can still allow you to keep your summer body. You can look forward to a few new starters, mains, and desserts (the only items which were not that health-friendly!) the next time you find yourself at M&B.

Summer Menu Tastes

Our evening started off with being served Turmeric Ginger Slush and Root Beer Ice Cream Shots (labelled Turmeric Gingerade and Root Beer Ice Cream on the menu). I was keen on the turmeric and went for that first – it turned out to be quite pungent for me, and it’s certainly an acquired taste. The root beer shot was absolutely delicious.

Next up were the platters of chicken wings, beef rashers, hassleback potatoes with macon on top, and nachos. The potatoes with macon were my favourite (I love anything that has potato in it). The Mexican Street Corn Fritters are to die for! They were warm, crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside and they had a lovely dash of spice to awaken your tastebuds. I’d go back just to order a basket of them all for myself…

The mains included Buttermilk Chicken Burgers (which were excellent), Thai Beef Salad (nice ‘n spicy!), Moroccan Chickpea Salad (I didn’t taste this but heard it was rather sweet), Chicken and Avo Wraps (pretty good with a dash of spice), and soft, yummy Sweet Potato Fries and Regular Fries – fries are always a winner but the regular ones certainly did it for me.

And to end off, we had a choice of two Super Food Lattes: Yellow (turmeric, cinnamon and ginger blend), or Red (beetroot and ginger blend). I opted for the beetroot latte which was surprisingly pretty good, as the beetroot threw me off until I tasted the latte. These were served with a trio of cakes: carrot cake, strawberry cheesecake and chocolate cake. The carrot cake is a must-try – it is, hands-down, the best carrot cake I’ve had in years… especially if you have a sweet tooth.

That’s a Wrap

Eugene, the Mugg & Bean Kenilworth Manager, introduced us to every item – carefully setting up the expectation before we sank our teeth in. His friendliness and humour shone through every interaction we had with him. Hungry for Halaal, who graciously organised the meet up, gathered a lively bunch of foodies who were a pleasure to spend the evening with, accompanied by an excess of great food. At the end of the evening, we were treated to a gift from Eugene and his team – sweet.

If you find yourself in the Southern Suburbs this summer, treat yourself to Mugg & Bean at Kenilworth. It’s worth it. 😉
